The final: an
American story and hunger of memory
An American
story is about a Vietnamese boy named Viet din, he is trying to survive the awful
and deadly days during the Vietnam War. He flees the war battles on a small
fishing boat along with his family. Most of his family were captured and taken
to camps where they were either imprisoned or toured for days. Most of vet’s
family either perished in the ocean or were sent to the camps. But to this day
they reunite forever despite their pain and torture days they find each other
and live happy for the rests of their lives. The theme on an American story is
that no matter if your parents ,brothers and sisters are mean to you is because
they love you and want you to live happy and to be grateful that you have a
family that loves you.hunger of memory is about a family from Mexico who moves
to Sacramento California. They now with American people which they call the
gringos and are the only poorest family in the whole block. Their house looked
so poor that in comparison to the other houses looked like rich houses. The
family haves trouble fitting in with the whole neighborhood. Even the kids from
the family have trouble at school not fitting in with the other kids. Richard Rodriguez
talks about his childhood and the trouble that the family is going through and
been through. Knowing only a few words of English he has problems of commotion
with the other American kids. But despite his commotion he learns and becomes accustomed
with the neighborhood. The theme on hunger of memory is that you may lose
something but you gain something new.
An American story takes place in
Vietnam during the Vietnam War. ‘They were boat people, they had left Vietnam
on a small fishing boat, which lost its engine in a storm. “Which that means
the family left Vietnam because the Vietnam War and to gain their freedom. But
some family members either got lost at sea or taken to camps. But all end up surviving.
Hunger of memory takes place in Sacramento California. ‘Nor was the Sacramento
of the fifties bent on teaching then a country lesson. Meaning they moved to Sacramento
California which they came from Mexico and move to America as illegal
immigrants and are living on the same block with the gringos and are not
fitting with the nieghbors.the similarities between hunger of memory and an American
story is that the both stories is about a family having trouble and but
together they each fight each other’s with their problems and stay together.
The differences between hunger of memory and an American story is that an American
story was about a family trying to survive the Vietnam war and hunger of memory
is about a family of illegal immigrants having trouble fitting in as a American
family think that an American story had more sadness or more
Drama in it because the family
suffered a lot in life. They tried to escape Vietnam for their freedom and even
their life but along the way the engine of their small fishing boat gets lost
during a storm. Some family members got lost at sea and the family members that
survived were sent to camps. But hunger of memory was less drama but was about an
illegal family from Mexico that moves to California and haves trouble fitting
with the Americans which they call los gringos.even the kids of the family have
trouble with the Americans kids but Richard Rodriquez talks how him and his
family have trouble speaking English but despite that he learns a little bit of
English a day and soon becomes an expert of speaking English. The setting of an
American story was in Sacramento California and the setting in hunger of memory
was in Vietnam. The settings in both of the stories are nothing alike because
hunger of memory is in America and an American
story takes place in Asia. And their plot of each story is nothing alike either
because an American story is about a family trying to survive the Vietnam war
and hunger of memory is about a family from Mexico not used to the daily of America
and having trouble fitting in. that’s why these stories don’t relate but in
some ways they do like for example the bother stories is about a family having
in some sort of way. I think they could have made these stories better by
adding more details and examples like for example for the story of an American
story is that they could have more details to how the family survived the days
on being on the ocean and days of being in the camp. And think which would made
hunger of memory better would be if that have added how the other family
members have trouble speaking English in their daily lives.
